The Birthday Week

We had a great week last week, filled with birthday celebrations for our little boy.  His actual birthday was very low-key since Brent had class all day and worked that evening.  Emmett and I worked during the day also.  We took a little trip down to visit Brent at work and had a little treat.  Wednesday night we went to Red Robin for dinner with my parents.  Emmett got his usual pizza and even got a birthday sundae, complete with the waiters singing!  He didn't know what to think at first, but seemed to enjoy it at the end.  (My mom reminded me, that if that had happened to me when I was two, I would have been crying hysterically!)  He got a lot of fun gifts too.  Books, pjs, puzzles, "Cars" stuff, a ride-on truck, a big Tonka truck, and his favorite gift of all, two live goldfish!  I am sad to say that we lost one a few days into the week and lost the second one yesterday.  I guess we're going to have to go to the pet store and spend another 12 cents for one more.  I hope we can find the money in our budget. ;)

I have been trying to get a good set of photos to mark his 2nd year, but I'm having a hard time doing it alone.  Most of the pics I do have are his back as he is running away from me, or a very blurry close up of his face as he's trying to look into the lens.  Tomorrow night Brent and I will both be home, so I think we will be able to accomplish it.  Stay tuned...

Happy Birthday Emmett!

Today is Emmett's 2nd birthday and I can't believe it!  I think this year went by faster than his first year.  He is such a fun little guy these days.

• Constantly tests his limits
• Loves watching  Disney movies...Cars, Nemo, Toy Story 1 & 2, and Bugs Life
• Likes to play with Daddy's iPhone (with supervision).  He can navigate it on his own.  Swipes his finger to unlock it, touches the apps he wants (mostly the photos) and can swipe through the photos.  Brent recently got him his own app - Peekaboo Farm and is looking into a few others.  If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to let us know!
• Sleeps about 12 hours at night and takes a 2ish hour nap in the afternoon
• Still has a binky for sleepy time, and his favorite giraffe
• Can take off all of his clothes except a shirt.  Will undress himself in the morning if I ask him to.  And sometimes even if I don't.
• If we are going to Grandma's (either one) and we don't go the normal way (or stop at the store or something), he will let me know by saying "Go Gamma's house!"
• Points out every "big duck" (truck) or "mo-caca" (motorcycle) we see anywhere and makes a vroom noise
• Likes to watch for "guys runnin" or "puppies walkin" out our living room window.  (Guys are any kind of person, man, woman, or child.)
• Says "Uh-huh" instead of yes
• Says "Okay" or "Otay" anytime we tell him something
• Has no interest in learning anything academic (numbers, abc's, etc.) although he can count to 3.  He usually says "1,2,3,5,7"
• Loves washing his hands with any kind of liquid soap
• Loves to play out in the dirt. 

I think these are most of his little quirks that are uniquely him (for the most part).  He's becoming more of a toddler everyday and less of a baby.  We are having a lot of fun with him right now, when he's not demanding his independence that is.  And although he tries my patience multiple times a day, I am trying to savor these times because I know they will quickly pass.

     

This is my all-time favorite picture of him. (In fact, it was the photo I used for his birth announcements!)  He wasn't even 4 weeks old yet.

Easter

We celebrated Easter with my family on Saturday afternoon.  (Unfortunately, I don't have any great pictures.)  We had an Easter egg hunt with the little kids and the big kids.  Emmett was more interested in throwing his eggs and his basket than he was in hunting for them.  Consequently he ended up with far fewer eggs than anyone else.

Sunday afternoon we headed out to Brent's mom's house for another celebration.  This time Emmett had a great time hunting for eggs and had more success.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Birthday Party

We had a great weekend!  Saturday we had a little birthday party for Emmett with his cousins (my side).  (His actual b-day isn't until next week.)  All the kids came over for lunch and cupcakes.  I only had one organized activity, which was fine because they all ended up running around and playing on their own anyways.  They also decorated a Easter gingerbread house.

 

I think Emmett just ate the candy decorations.

A New Friend

Yesterday Emmett and I visited my friend Jackie and her new baby Logan.  She and her husband waited two years to get their little boy (from Korea) into their arms.  They have had him for about 6 weeks and seem to be doing well.  Logan is a perfect fit for their family!

Life is a highway...

In case you were wondering, that is Emmett's new favorite song.  From his new favorite movie, "Cars."  A refreshing change from Toy Story, if you ask me.  He wants me to sing it to him at night.  But the only part I know is the chorus.  "Life is a highway.  I want to ride it all night long."  And he will sing along.  "Highway.  All night long."  And if we listen to it in the car, he dances as hard as he can in his carseat and tries to snap his fingers.

We are loving this warm weather!  We've been driving with the window open.  And we've been taking walks in the evening.  Since many nights its just Emmett and me around her, it makes for a nice activity.  And we both wore shorts today (well, mine were capris) and sandals with no socks.

Also, my flowers have finally bloomed.  I thought they were tulips, but they are actually daffodils.  They are the tiniest daffodils I have ever seen!
