I'm feeling like the queen of Bible studies lately. Not that I'm actually a queen during the Bible study, but that I have 3 that I am a part of. Yes, three, and they are all very different from each other.
One I have been in for almost two years. It's at my old church. The leader is a former missionary, so her perspective on spiritual things is really interesting. And different. Not weird different, but just different from anything I have ever been taught. Our main focus is living as the new creation that we become once we accept Christ. Choosing to live that life everyday. Choosing everyday to live that life. 2 Corinthians 5:14b "Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life"; 17"This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life has gone; a new life has begun!" I love this Bible study because I have learned a ton about who God is and what He has done for us. Plus it's a great format, lots of discussion and real life application. Not the "church" answers that we can all come up with if we need to, but lot of "this is what that looks like."
The second one I am in is Bible Study Fellowship. I have wanted to do this for a while, but I had to wait until Emmett was 2. (They now have a baby class for those of you that didn't know.) Anyhow, this is much more traditional as far as format goes. I had to get over some of the "rules" and I don't always love going, but I really like doing my lessons. And I l.o.v.e. that Emmett gets to be a part of it too. We are studying the book of John. Basically the book has been divided into 32 lessons to last the whole year. Each week we read a section and answer questions related to what we read. Then we meet to discuss the questions and then listen to a lecture about the week as a whole. I love getting that deep into one book. I have learned a lot about who Jesus is and what His purpose was here on earth. I have gone back and forth about doing it again next year, but I have a feeling I will!
The third one we just started on Sunday. The church that Brent's mom and stepdad go to (Terrace Heights Presbyterian) invited us to be a part of the Love Dare. (I'm retty sure you all know what it is, so I won't go on to describe it.) I was a little hesitant to do this one for a variety of reasons. Partly because Brent won't be able to attend the actual meetings very often because of work, and partly for other personal reasons. But we've been struggling lately, so I thought maybe it would be a good opportunity. And maybe we'll make a few new friends too!
I am really enjoying being a part of three different Bible studies. I learn something different at each one, yet it seems like during a week or two week period, I can also tie them together somehow.
